Professional Development & Workshops
Throughout the year, the GRPM hosts several professional development and workshop opportunities for educators. Topics range from incorporating a Museum Mindset into the classroom to how to weave local histories into your teaching.Â
Voices of the Revolution: George Washington and the Stories Around Him
Mark your calendars! This summer, George Washington’s Mount Vernon and the Grand Rapids Public Museum will bring educators together for a full day of inquiry, storytelling, and practical classroom application focused on the Revolutionary era.
Participants will explore the American Revolution through the leadership of George Washington and the diverse individuals who surrounded him, examining how personal experiences shaped the course of the war and the emerging nation. Special attention will be given to lesser-known stories and perspectives from groups who experienced the Revolution in varied ways, deepening our collective understanding and helping to tell a more complete and inclusive story of the era.
Educators will leave with classroom resources, including an overview of the many online materials available to support instruction and engage learners. The day will also feature a scholar talk by Dr. Gabriele Gottlieb of Grand Valley State University, providing deeper historical context and fresh perspectives on the Revolution.
