50 years of building community after Saigon
May 7, 2025
The Grand Rapids Public Museum and Kentwood Public Schools teamed up to bring history to life through student-led storytelling. In their U.S. History course, East Kentwood students explored how Vietnamese Americans have shaped West Michigan.
By interviewing family members who came to the U.S. after the fall of Saigon, students connect personal stories to national history. These narratives offer new local perspectives, highlight the impact of the Refugee Act of 1980, and provide valuable primary sources for future students.
Discover how these powerful stories continue to shape Vietnamese American identity in West Michigan.
