Summer fun happens at the Grand Rapids Public Museum! Explore the wonders of science, history, culture, art and fun! For 9 weeks this summer, kids pre-K through 9th grade will use the Museum as a learning lab – experimenting and growing – all while having a great time in one of the area’s most history-rich and “cool” environments. Each camper receives a FREE camp t-shirt!

Dig into mysteries of the Earth! Fossils tell a story about our exciting geological past. Campers will become junior paleontologists as they learn about, discover and create fossils. They will also uncover what lies beneath Michigan from sharks to mastodons, our state’s hidden secrets will be revealed.

Museum Treasures

Explore the people of the past, who they were and their pieces of history from the GRPM Collections in this treasure hunting camp! Campers will explore maps, geography, orienteering, art, culture and will culminate with creating a living wax museum.

Grand Photo Project

Grab your cameras! The natural history of Grand Rapids and the Museum Collections serve as inspiration for campers to create their own photographic masterpieces. Life in Space: A Journey Through the Extremes - SOLD OUT

Sold out – July 22-26 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Explore space at the GRPM and through the Van Andel Education Institute (VAEI)! Monday & Tuesday campers will be at the GRPM learning about space, along with watching planetarium shows about the solar system. Wednesday – Friday at VAEI, participants will explore the dangers associated with space travel and investigate ways to make space travel safe for humans. Conduct investigations in Earth and Space science, physics, biology and engineering. Understand how our bodies work differently in space than on Earth, and investigate the use of LEGOⓇ robots to help explore hazardous places. Campers are  invited to the Veen observatory in Lowell on July 26.

Don’t miss the GRPM’s acclaimed Young Wizards Academy at the Camp Curious School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, based on the popular series by J.K. Rowling! Be chosen by a wand, get sorted into a house and harness the power of imagination to make potions, study the stars and meet fantastical creatures! Dress as your favorite witch or wizard, and bring along your favorite Harry Potter book for fun reading time in the castle. On the final day, parents and families are invited to attend a special wizard ceremony.

Mosaic Mobile Filmmaking - NEW

June 17 -21 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

If you love being on your phone, want to make the next great viral video, or think it would be cool to go behind the scenes on a real “movie” set, the Mosaic Mobile filmmaking camp is perfect for you!

This summer, the GRPM will open an exhibit, Changing America, designed to encourage public discussion about the relationship between two great peoples’ movements that resulted in the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and the March on Washington in 1963. This Mosaic Mobile program is working with the GRPM to expand this story locally by capturing the stories of area civil rights leaders and will give students the opportunity to learn valuable media skills while expanding their knowledge of Grand Rapids history.

Planetarium Masters

July 8-11 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Are you a star gazer or have you dreamed of exploring deep space? Work side by side with our planetarium experts to learn about a planetary topic and develop a show for the GRPM’s Chaffee Planetarium. Campers will present their own planetarium masterpieces. Families are invited to attend this final presentation on the last day of camp, and are invited to the Veen Observatory in Lowell on July 11.
