GRPS Middle School female students have a special opportunity to work with local women STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) professionals. Work with Hydrogen powered cars, solar and wind energy, electrochemistry, physics and engineering and more! You will influence the future!

Young Women in Science is FREE and will take place during a six week session at the Grand Rapids Public Museum, sponsored by the DTE Energy Foundation.

 

 

Program Outcomes:

  • Programming will reinforce grade-level science standards and laboratory skills with an emphasis on renewable energy.
  • Reflection and dialogue will aim to improve student attitudes toward science and engineering by building up self-confidence and introducing career possibilities.
  • Students will display the product of a renewable energy design challenge and share a reflection of their program experience at a Family and Friend Showcase at the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

 

 

Students will be expected to attend all scheduled dates in their 6 week session.
Location: Grand Rapids Public Museum
Transportation will be provided by DEAN transportation from School to the Museum and then back home.

  • Grand Rapids University Prep Academy: February 11- March 20 (Mondays and Wednesdays)
  • Westwood Middle School: February 12- March 21 (Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Alger Middle School: April 8-May 15 (Mondays and Wednesdays)
  • Riverside Middle School: April 9-May 16 (Tuesdays and Thursdays)
  • *Note: If school or evening programs are cancelled the program will also be cancelled.

     

    A celebration for the Young Women in Science families will take place on May 23, 2019 at 6 p.m. at the Museum.
