Event Details

The Museum is excited to bring back Carla Hartman, Education Director of the Eames Office, owner of the design company Chairs Lady and granddaughter of Charles and Ray Eames, for Chair Camp 2022. Through this program, students who are in 5th – 12th grade will be introduced to the Eames family – iconic designers who launched the mid-century modern furniture movement- and will explore design ideas, look at the history of furniture in West Michigan and ultimately create their own miniature piece of furniture. Participants will tap into their creativity, to create these miniature furniture pieces by using recycled objects, tape, glue and other everyday items.

For the 2022 program, the Museum is adding a new element that is very exciting and may lead to new creations for the Museum’s grounds and buildings. Participants will have the opportunity to design furniture prototypes that may be used in the Museum’s redesign campaign! Future generations of museum goers may sit on, lean against or stand on creations inspired by Chair Camp 2022.

This class is limited to 100 students per session (10 round tables with 10 chairs per table). Cost is $100 per classroom and registration should be completed in Group Scheduling by using the link below. Sponsored by Downtown Grand Rapids Inc.

Session 1: 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
