Event Details

7:30 p.m. in the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium.

Concerts Under the Stars is an immersive full-dome concert experience where local West Michigan bands perform their music, enhanced by original video art by local visual artists projected onto the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium’s 50-foot dome. Visitors are invited to explore the Museum’s first two floors of exhibits during the cocktail hour before the concert. 

Each show begins at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Performers will play two sets with a short intermission in between. Refreshments, beer, and other beverages will be available for purchase. Tickets are $24, with discounted pricing of $20 for GRPM members.

About Ahya Simone

Ahya Simone is a Detroit-based harpist, singer-songwriter femme queen who fuses R&B/soul, jazz, and experimental elements. Ahya Simone’s many pronged practice is bound by an exploration of black Identity, Aesthetic, and community building. Simone’s engagement with music stems from a childhood spent in the Black church, where she learned to sing. She later became principal harpist for the Wayne State University Wind Symphony.

About Mike Saunders

Mike Saunders joined WMCAT in 2014 as video production teaching artist and now works as program manager of arts + tech. He is a producer on three award-winning films with Sob Noisse – “Coyote,” “Ape” and “Buzzard.” Mike is also co-founder of Plastic Son Productions, through which he has worked with nonprofits to produce documentaries. He has a BA from GVSU and completed the Lexia program at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. Mike is co-founder of the Grand Rapids Soul Club and a popular DJ. He currently serves on the board of directors for Film and Media Alliance of West Michigan.

Museum Parking Ramp Closed Saturday, July 26

The Museum Parking Ramp will be unavailable for use this Saturday due to the Pleasant Peninsula Mural Festival taking place on Front Avenue. They will be painting 21 new beautiful murals to brighten up Downtown Grand Rapids.

Alternative FREE parking will still be available in the GVSU Mt. Vernon lot at 50 Front Ave SW. See the map below for directions on how to access the Mt. Vernon lot.

Closure Notice
