GRPM Keynote Speaker José Hernández

11 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023, in the GRPM’s Meijer Theater

Join us at the GRPM for a special lecture from Roger That!  keynote speaker José Hernández. Astronaut José Hernández grew up in a family of California farmworkers, moving from place to place throughout the different agricultural seasons. Drawn to the space program and encouraged by his family and teachers, Hernandez focused on his studies, going to college and eventually earning a Masters Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

An upcoming movie about Hernández’s story, A Million Miles Away is currently in production. He will be speaking in the Grand Rapids Public Museum’s Meijer Theatre at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023

ABOUT ROGER THAT!

Roger That! celebrates space exploration and the life of Grand Rapids native, Roger B. Chaffee, a former American naval officer and aviator aeronautical engineer, and NASA astronaut in the Apollo program. We at the GRPM, in partnership with Grand Valley State University, are proud to bring you the seventh annual Roger That! symposium on the weekend of February 10-11, 2023.

Community partners for 2023 Roger That! include Mark Gleason/Underwater ROV technology, the Grand Rapids Children’s MuseumKent District Library, the Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association (GRAAA), the GVSU Padnos College of EngineeringGVSU Physics Club, the GVSU Lunar Lakers and the National Informal STEM Education Network.

Planetarium Closure Notice

The Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium is closed June 8 through June 15 for the most significant systems upgrade made to our Planetarium in 10 years!

Come back after June 15 to see crisper, cleaner, and more vibrant visuals, and a system capable of showcasing parts of the universe we weren’t able to display before!

Closure Notice

The GRPM will be closed on Thursday, September 12, 2024 for an event. We will re-open on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 9 a.m. 

Late Opening Notice.

On Saturday, May 11, the Museum will open at 12 p.m. due to road closures for the Amway River Bank Run.

Early Closure Notice.

The Museum will close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1 for Museum Adventure After Dark. Tickets are still available!
